About Cofftea | coffee shop paris
Welcome to Cofftea, your favorite coffee shop in Paris 5. Enjoy a balanced, healthy breakfast, or extend the pleasure with our gourmet brunches.
At Cofftea, we believe that every cup of coffee or tea tells a story. Our mission is to create a space where curious and cultured minds can meet, exchange ideas and recharge their batteries. We are committed to offering quality products, prepared with care and passion.
The ODYSSEY of an opening
Once upon a time, not far from rue Broca, there was a wooden toy store with a large apple-green façade called Maison Soulignac, where François had been selling toys for 40 years to the children of children to whom he had sold toys. In his store, time seemed to stand still in a magical atmosphere. François was eternally young and dreamed of traveling the world in a Volkswagen convertible, but for so many years he had forged a close bond with the locals and refused to leave for anonymous supermarkets.
One day, a mom comes along looking for toys for her young munchkins (how original) and, like all working moms, she’s rushing around all the time. The two actors develop a shared sympathy for each other. Our mother, as you may have guessed, is Xin. She gradually decelerates from one encounter to the next, letting herself be captured by the magic of the place. Xin, who is passionate about tea and architecture, comes regularly to chat with François, who offers her his place. It’s 2019 and Xin has decided to set up a tea room at 8 rue Berthollet where children won’t be forgotten.
next story
Easy to say, isn’t it? Not so much, since he had to train in China with the great tea houses, obtain a pastry-making diploma from Ferrandi, a barista diploma, hygiene accreditations and so on. Resourceful, she conceives her interior, designs her kitchen, supervises her building site and makes her furniture from baubuche wood. She hunts for furniture at flea markets (there’s a great one a stone’s throw away that we can point you to), objects like bags from Japanese brands, and equips herself with comfortable 366 concept banquettes and Sérax crockery, with a desire to make everything we use in the living room saleable without being pressurized into the act of buying from a store.
An open house during a worksite and the first meetings with local residents. Neighbors, of course, but also Laurent, a skilled engraver always ready to tinker with us, adorning our walls with his powerful black-and-white works, and passing friends whom we happily ask to continue our conversations with a hammer in hand. Our neighbors shared their grandmotherly recipes with us, such as the orange and almond powder cake (which we regularly put back on the menu. Thanks again!). Then came the meeting with Ivan Alfaro. He was passing by. On tchatche…. and the connection goes through. His know-how and his grain have enabled us to gradually improve and raise the level of specialty coffee that we could serve with a consistent level of roasting across the different terroirs. Everything is finally ready. We open in March 2020. What sick timing! We laugh about it now, but still. Isn’t that crazy?
Patatrac, the cafés could no longer open. Never mind, we’ll open a fast-food restaurant. Here again, we can thank our neighbors, with Claudia introducing us to jovial Italian chef Nicolas, a master of the subtleties of Parma cuisine. Armed with our masks, we try to sell a few takeaway soups and lasagne to passers-by, who gradually return in greater numbers, a little for the soups, a little to communicate. That’s when the café made sense. Not because we served the best coffee, but because a café is first and foremost a place for social interaction, something we were all deprived of. Fortunately, the masks are off! We discovered the smiles on our customers’ faces, piecing them together to guess who’s who. It’s finally here? Well, no. Nicolas the Neapolitan chef has his wife break her arm and has to look after her baby.
Fortunately, we can still count on friends and chef Laurent Pop, who not only brings his French cuisine in the form of daily specials, but also brings professionalism to the service and trains Xin in certain cooking techniques. In the opposite direction, Laurent fell in love with specialty coffee and theworld of coffee shops. A pleasure that has prompted him to open his own coffee shop soon. We’re so happy. Yihaa.
With Laurent’s mission coming to an end and other exciting adventures awaiting him, Xin is busy presenting 3 dishes of the day every day, from all over the world but often with an Asian fusion touch. Its poetic dishes attract regulars who refer to it as an everyday canteen. One kitchen assistant follows another, including the wonderful Yuko and her Japanese dishes. Tomoki Matu is starting to do a few brunches on sunny weekends. Little by little, our knowledge progresses in coffee, drawing latte art, pastries, trying to do simple things with brillo.
Today it’s Tomoki Matu ‘s turn to offer his fusion dishes of the day in the form of Sando, evolving daily with seasonal ingredients, and reviving our tradition of neighbor soup.

Discover our Coworking formula
At Cofftea, every cup of coffee or tea is served with passion in a welcoming setting, perfect for those looking for a place to work or simply enjoy a moment of relaxation. We know that teleworking has become a norm for many, and we’re happy to offer a space where concentration and conviviality coexist.
However, as a small independent coffee shop, we have to find a balance between providing quality experiences and remaining viable. To this end, we offer a coworking formula at 6 Euros/hour, including a drink, so that everyone can enjoy our space without compromising the essence of what we are. For example, if you take a latté, the difference is 0.5 centimes…
We hope this initiative will enable you to see Cofftea as your favorite workspace, while supporting our mission to share the joy of a good cup of coffee or tea.
